Finding Your Why

“Whether you are an entrepreneur, an employee, a leader of a team, or are looking to find clarity on your next move, your WHY is the one constant that will guide you toward fulfillment in your work and life.” – startwithwhy.com

To truly be an entrepreneur, I believe you must know what your why is. As Simon Sinek says, “The WHY is the purpose, cause or belief that drives every one of us.”

I recently had to write a college report on my WHY. It wasn’t the first I had heard of the idea but I had never actually read the book, looked at the website, or taken the time to think about what my WHY might be. But after receiving the assignment I started researching the idea and discovered my why. Which reads as follows…

“I believe everyone has the innate ability to achieve greatness and fulfill their life long dreams.

All humans have desires in some form or another. Some wish for happiness, some for the opportunity to be “rich”, and some merely wish to survive. If you ask a small child what they wish to do when they grow up they will respond with a thought that might seem outrageous to us but is so simple for them. Because they have dreams. Every single person on the planet has dreams. Everybody has wants and needs. Everyone wants success in one form or another.

I believe that finances play a key role in all of this. The problem with this, however, is that many people are not taught how to maturely handle their money. Many people are struggling financially, want help, but don’t know where to turn. A large portion of the world’s population suffers from financial stress. Something that keeps them bogged down and bound. Marriages are broken across the world due to continuous money fights. Senior citizens are left to die in nursing homes or on the street because they have no retirement to live on. College students graduate with their degrees but are encapsulated by a bubble of seemingly endless student loans. Single parents must work day in and day out to support their children, and in doing so miss many important milestones in their child’s life. Money is not everything, but in most scenarios…. everything comes back to money.

Why does that matter to me? Why should everyone else’s problems affect me? After all, I live in a country where I am free to be whatever I wish to be, do whatever I want to do and ignore anyone I want to ignore. It is because I have a passion.

My passion is for people. I believe people can accomplish all their goals and dreams. And I believe that I can change lives by guiding and counseling people through their financial problems. I believe in changing people’s financial situation for the better one budget at a time. This is WHY I wish to become a certified financial adviser.”

If this is the first you have heard of this I would suggest you go ahead and read the book “Start With Why” – https://startwithwhy.com This book will give you the basic understanding of what your WHY is. From there you can pursue your own take on it, find your WHY, and have what should be the foundation of your business.
