I know I promised a Pomodoro blog post, that will be out tonight due to me writing it as my first NaNoWriMo challenge:)
National Novel Writing Month. Millions of people writing large numbers of words throughout the month of November. The overall challenge is to write 50,000 words in one month. This is a decent length for a novel. Of course, you are not required to write a novel. Some authors choose to write nonfiction books, or magazine articles, or even comic strips. The overall goal is to just get a lot of creativity onto paper. I heard a saying today in one of Matt D’Avella’s podcast episode that said, “you stand out from the creative people when you create”. And that really makes a lot of sense, talking isn’t good for anything…you have to actually act on what you say.
Keep in mind, 50,000 words is simply the standard number for the challenge, but you can easily shorten it down as much as you need. Even 10,000 words is an achievement if you wouldn’t have written anything otherwise. Choose what goal you want to achieve, and crush it.
So my goal with NaNoWriMo is not to write a novel or a nonfiction. Eventually, I would love to write some sort of book but right now is not the time. But what I am going to be doing is writing 1 blog post a day. The way the challenge is broken down is 50,000 words into 30 days, which is roughly 1667 words per day. So my goal is to write a 1667 word long blog post every single day for the entire month of November. Now of course these will just be rough drafts, and I WILL NOT be posting a blog post every day as that would be an incredible waste of content and leave me exhausted with no backlog in December ? I will continue posting every Monday and Friday at 6:00 am EST, and the remains ~22 posts will be edited and scheduled out for future months.
I will also have a YouTube video documenting this challenge uploaded in early December, which I am looking forward to making as well. It will show the ups and downs I run into while taking on this challenge.
Overall I am quite excited about this challenge, and would love to have some people take it on with me! I’ve created a NaNoWriMo account with the username Geoburdo so you should definitely check it out, and tweet me to let me know what challenge you are working on! If you have any questions reach out to me via email or twitter and I’ll be sure to do my best to respond!
This is my first NaNoWriMo but I’m excited, let’s get it!
